Synthesis of magnetite (Fe3O4) coated pinecone crosslinked to cyclodextrin and its adsorption behaviour for 4-Nitrophenol: Response surface methodology

Abstract This study reports the systematic development of cyclodextrin magnetic biocomposite for remediation 4-nitrophenol from wastewater. Magnetic was synthesized by co-precipitation Fe 2+ and 3+ in presence NaOH treated pine-cone followed cross-linking with using epichlorohydrin, achieved an optimization tool. The experiments were designed interaction between working condition variables (CM-CD mass, MNP time temperature) on % iron content 4-NP adsorption capacity optimized response surface methodology approach. temperature mass both have positive influences capacity. Crosslinking onto magnetite confirmed transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, vibrating scanning magnetometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy thermal gravimetric analysis). Optimum conditions MNP-EPI-CD 2.0 g CM-β-CD, 0.83 at 30 °C 7.40 h which can remove 15.32 mg/g 4-nitrophenol. Graphical abstract
